This book brings together over 200 photographs by Letizia Battaglia (Palermo, 1935-2022), taking us on a journey through her creative process and personal life, from her beginnings in journalism in Milan in the early 1970s, to the tragic era of the Mafia wars that bloodied Palermo and Sicily throughout the 1970s and 1980s. It also takes in her extraordinary portraits of youngsters and of prominent figures in contemporary Italian culture, and the scenes of everyday life captured in her homeland and in various places around the world. The volume features essays by Walter Guadagnini, Melissa Harris, Monica Poggi, and Marta Sollima and highlights the wide range of Letizia Battaglia's interests and the coherence of her choices, in both, photography and her civil engagement.
