I ... André-Marie Ampère
An intense life full of passion and drama
Both famous and little-known, André-Marie Ampère was a French scientist with an insatiable curiosity for all aspects human knowledge. Nothing would escape his investigation.
By turns a poet, mathematician, chemist, physicist, and philosopher, he invested in all the disciplines with an uncommon power of imagination and invention. He laid the foundations of electrodynamics, which brought him fame.
Born under the « Ancien Régime », he lived through the French Aevolution, the advent of the First Empire, and the return of the Bourbons. Marked by family drama, moments of exaltation, periods of despondency and torments of the soul, he found refuge in the Christian faith. His natural goodness and belief in the progress of mankind prevailed throughout his life.
