Petit magasin ouvert en 1870, la Samaritaine ne cesse de s'agrandir jusqu'à former une île urbaine dévolue au commerce. Architectes renommés, Frantz Jourdain assisté par son fils Francis et Henri Sauvage, vont, entre 1900 et 1930, faire de la Samaritaine un double chef d'oeuvre de l'Art nouveau et de l'Art déco.

Fermée en 2005, la Samaritaine renaît aujourd'hui sous la houlette de LVMH. Restaurée, transformée, embellie, à la fois authentique et neuve, elle s'articule en un ensemble regroupant un nouveau grand magasin - Samaritaine Paris Pont-Neuf - des bureaux, des logements sociaux, une crèche et un hôtel - Cheval Blanc Paris.

Just a small shop when it opened in 1870, La Samaritaine continued to grow, subsequently becoming an urban island dedicated to commerce. In the years from 1900 to 1930 the renowned architect Frantz Jourdain, assisted by his son Francis and Henri Sauvage, worked on the design of the Samaritaine, creating an Art Nouveau and Art Deco masterpiece.

Closed in 2005, La Samaritaine has now been reborn under the guidance of LVMH. Restored, transformed and embellished, both preserved and new, it has become an ensemble with a new department store (Samaritaine Paris Pont-Neuf), offices, social housing, a day care centre and the Cheval Blanc Paris hotel.
